After opening my eyes, I was in a white circular room with five distinctive doors. All the doors had a unique symbol engraved on them. Despite never witnessing them before, I understood what each one meant. They represented the five functions listed by the voice in my head.
Not long after, my attention got piqued by the person standing around 2 meters away from me. It was a little girl, about 120 cm tall, with an expressionless face and a pair of stunning light sapphire blue eyes. Her white hair was slightly curled, reached the lower part of her back, and had some pink undertones. Her clothes consisted of a light-blue knee-length folded dress, white socks that disappeared under the dress, and blue Mary Jane shoes.
Rather than by her cuteness, my interest piqued certain unusual features of hers. She had a pair of fluffy cat-like ears and a long cat-like tail swinging from side to side behind her back. They were the same color as her hair, and she had a cute blue hairpin in the shape of the crescent moon on the left side of her head.
I decided to strike the conversation with a joke. "Hello, nyan, what's your name?"
She looked at me without any noticeable changes in her countenance.
"I don't have one," she replied, causing me to realize who she was.
She was the person that replied to my previous question outside The Orb. She was my intermediary with The Orb.
When she heard me, I think I saw something akin to sadness and longing flash in her eyes, and her ears and tail again slightly dropped. I would be unable to notice it if I wasn't paying her close attention, courtesy of her emotionless outward appearance.
"Do you want me to give you one?" I inquired.
She looked at me with a bit of hope in her eyes.
This is too adorable! The strongest technique in existence? The Puppy Eyes! Legends say these eyes can melt the coldest heart!
Then, I snapped back to reality.
No! I can't hug strangers.
Alas, soon after, the cuteness took me over again.
But can I blame myself? No!! It's her fault for being so cute. Someone who sees a little kitten or a puppy and doesn't want to hug it and play with it must be heartless!! My thoughts are going in a strange direction. I need to stay calm and composed. At least for now...
"Nn." she nodded lightly.
"Ok, but I am not good at coming up with names, so please don't expect much," I warned her and started to think.
"How about Shiro?" I asked after a while.
"No, it's too common, and I am not a pet." she rebutted.
Ugh, she seems a little upset. Is it me, or is she showing more and more emotions? I can tell only because of her ears and tail, but sometimes it's slightly visible on her face, though these are just glimpses. I guess she is a kudere type?
She blushed ever so slightly.
"Did you think something rude?" she asked.
She is sharp!!
"O-of course not. Don't be silly." I replied. "How about Yue? You have a hairpin in the shape of the moon." I proposed.
"I know you have stolen it from an anime." she declared.
"How?" I asked, slightly stunned.
"I have access to your memories," she answered.
"Does this include my current thoughts?' I inquired.
"Yes, but in case of recent memories, I have to look at them proactively," she explained.
"Why did you say nothing?" I asked with a straight face. That is a piece of important information!!!
"You didn't ask," she replied and averted her head.
"And the real one?" I asked, knowing that can't be the real reason.
"I wanted to test you a little," she answered.
"Ok... How about Vanilla? Your hair has a color similar to vanilla." I said, deciding to go back to the topic at hand.
"This one is stolen too. Please think about something by yourself," she said, a bit of disappointment slipping through the cold mask.
She seems more upset again. This silent anger is scary!! But, it's also a little cute. Not to mention you look like Vanilla.
She looked at me again.
"I didn't think about anything rude!!" I protested and took a deep breath. "Ok, this is my final proposition. How about Selen? There is a goddess related to the moon named Selene, and since you have that moon-shaped hairpin, I think this name fits you."
I am tired of this. I hope she likes this one.
She pondered for a while and looked at me. "Hmmm... I like it. Thank you." she said, with a slight smile. Then her face became expressionless again.
"Please come with me. Now that you entered the Orb, I will give you a short tour and explain the additional functions of Living Quarters and Training Room," Selen said and went towards the doors with the sign of Living Quarters.
"Ok, I understand," I said, nodding my head.
The first thing I saw upon crossing the entrance to the living quarters was a small porch. Here on the floor, I saw two pairs of comfortably looking black slippers, one pair my size while the other one fit the cat girl.
The floor was covered in oak planks, while the walls were light gray colored. From the porch to the rest of the rooms led a white four meters long hallway. The hallway had some decorations like pictures and gave off a 'modern' feeling. There were five different entrances. Starting from my right, they led towards the kitchen, combined with a dining room, a spacious and comfortable-looking living room, most likely our destination, a bedroom with a king-sized bed, bathroom, and toilet. All of these also gave off a 'modern' feeling and were painted in a combination of black, white, and gray colors with the addition of a more vibrant color, like lime green.
We entered the living room and sat down on a couch. The whole room and its furnishing were mainly in white, black, gray, and vibrant orange colors. There were two armchairs, one couch, a few shelves, a low knee-high table, and a massive TV set.
"So, what's the additional function of this room?"
I still have to see even a slight change on her face.
"As I already said, The Orb of Desires currently has five different functions. Two of them can be used only inside The Orb. These are the Training Room and Living Quarters where we are right now. While you are here, you can rest as much and in any way you want. It has everything you need to relax and live properly. If you need something, then concentrate on it, and it will change or appear. As for the training room, it's suitable for any training. Everything there can be changed, whether it's the dimensions of the room, its shape, or the temperature. It can also perfectly simulate any environment or create opponents. You can turn it into a gym, a forest, another planet, anything. Also, your stamina will regenerate almost instantly while inside, and it will make you not feel the pain resulting from training until you can rest. That means you can train almost indefinitely. The only thing that can stop you is your mental wellness, like mental fatigue." Selen explained in detail.
"What about the other functions? Before coming here I saw five different doors so I assume each function has a room."
"Yes. Each function has a designated room, however, you can also access them through a holographic screen. You just need to focus on a function and want it to appear." she replied.
"What is the use of having a room then?" I inquired.
"Aesthetics? Ask Matrucks, he is the one that set it in such a way. In the case of storage room, it can also function as a gallery or museum as it displays everything put there, in the form of exhibits."
"I see. Now that we can talk comfortably, I will ask you a few more things and go check out the training room. Can you tell me about the structure of the world? I also heard something about levels."
"Hmmm...It seems that for now, I can't tell you much. There are six levels of records." she said.
"Records? What does it mean exactly?" I asked.
"As you know, you have reincarnated in a world similar to To Love-ru. It has only one timeline and is the size of a single universe. It also possesses a few 'planes of existence that overlap with each other. All of this makes up a record whose level is approximately four." she replied.
"What would be a level six record then?" I inquired.
"The Dragon Ball you remember. There are twelve universes and different timelines. It has a few 'planes of existence' like heaven and hell. What is even more important is the clear power structure. Despite the number of inconsistencies they have, Chinese cultivation novels are usually high-level records. As a bonus, I will add that records can't interact with each other on their own, so any fanfiction you saw that involved travel between different worlds is its separate record." she explained.
"Is there anything else you can tell me?" I asked.
"The records are divided into six different levels. All of them have an Observer, a being who has full control over their record. They are born together with the record, don't directly interfere, only watch, and their level is always above all the 'true' inhabitants. Above them are level 7 entities representing concepts like Matrucksa. The only thing above is the collective will of everything in existence." answered Selen.
"How do we determine the level of a record?" I inquired.
"The record's level depends on the entities living inside. For example, level 4 and higher records have gods in them. That's all I can tell for now." she said.
"I see. I don't think I need to know more for now. I got a general idea, but there is one thing that I can't stop thinking about." I said and looked at her, a serious expression marring my face. "Why do you look like... well, this?" I asked.
She looked at me with disdain, showing for the first time any change in emotion.
Why must it be one of her first emotions directed at me!!!?
"'I am an intermediary of The Orb of Desires. My looks reflect your desires you damn lolicon'..."
Hearing her reply, I was nearly brought to my knees and wanted to puke blood like a young master, but she continued, again with an expressionless face.
"...is what I was supposed to say to you if you asked," Selen added.
Don't scare me like that!!!
I looked at her suspiciously and tried to confirm my assumptions, "Don't tell me this was arranged by Matrucksa as well..?".
It was probably my imagination, but for a moment, I felt like I have seen a smirk on her face. You are enjoying my pain!!!
"Yes, it is. I look and behave like this because of him. He also arranged for you five special rooms inside the Orb that I mentioned earlier." she answered.
"If you are that dissatisfied with my appearance and personality, you can change it."
She was still as expressionless as before, but I had the impression that her ears dropped ever so slightly.
After exhaling a deep breath, I looked at her apologetically and extended my hand to pet her head. It wasn't hard as she sat not that far from me.
"No, it's not what I meant. You are cute, and I am satisfied with how you are right now, but being called a lolicon is a little too much for me." I explained with a wry smile.
After she seemed to return to normal, I sighed again.
It's not her fault, but that clown of a god.
After lunging around the living room for a bit, I stood up and left to check out the Training Room, leaving behind the fluffy haven.

"So this is the training room? It doesn't look that special."
The Training Room, at first glance, didn't look special. It was an empty, white room in the shape of a cube, with each wall around 6m high and long.
I looked at Selen questioningly, causing her to utter, "Change into 'gym'."
In mere seconds the whole room turned into that, a gym. Now the room was much wider. It was rectangle-shaped, 6m long and 12m wide, with the ceiling only 3m above the floor. I could see different types of equipment used in lifting weights. There were also machines for training specific muscle groups and body parts, like arms, chest, or legs.
"Okey. You got me there. This room is special. How does it work? Are there any limits?"I said, looking at her, excitement visible on my face.
"This place can change into anything, as long as you can picture it in your mind. For the function to activate, you need to be focused. Since it's your first time, It will be easier to imagine if you say it out loud." Selen explained.
"Is there a particular reason why I need to be focused for the room to change?" I inquired.
"It's a countermeasure against wayward thoughts interrupting your training. For example, it wouldn't be funny, at least for you, if this place turned into a volcano out of nowhere."
I will ignore that mean remark since I can pay her back later. *evil inner laugh*
She sighed, probably because of checking what I thought.
It must have been visible on my face! Tsk, I need to remember not to smile evilly while planning my vengeance in the future.
"Is there a way to track my progress?" I asked.
"Yes. The room can evaluate your capabilities and display it in a way that would be easy to understand for you," she replied.
"Soooo, a status window?" I asked, already fired up to check it out.
This elicited a sight from Selen. "Yes, a status window," she confirmed.
"You are no fun," I muttered to myself.
I guess it's time to start my training. But first things first. Let's see how my status looks.

"The level represents the level of power. All beings are divided into different existential levels. There are 7 levels in total, these being 1-Mortal, 2-Awakened, 3-Legendary, 4-Divine, 5-Realm, 6-Multiversal, and 7-Aspect Manifestation. The higher they go, the bigger the difference between different levels. As for the grades, there are 10, these being EX, SSS, SS, S, A, B, C, D, E, and F, with EX being the highest, one step away from reaching the next level. Grades can also have a plus and minus sign, excluding EX, which can only have a minus after it. These symbols tell you if it's closer to the bottom or the top of the grade. Remember that level is more important than grade since they represent the level of your existence." she explained.
That's quite a bit of info to take in. However, there is something that bothers me.
"Isn't there something wrong with my energy quality? It only says EX, and based on your explanation Matrucksa as a level 7 being, should be able to provide a Level: 7, Grade: EX energy. What does it mean?"
"It means there is no purer energy than Origin," she replied.
"He really wants to get rid of these reincarnators, doesn't he?" I commented.
"That seems to be the case," she replied, showing no interest.
"I see&hellip; In that case, what would be the level and grade of an average mature human?" I inquired, curious how I fared against other humans.
"It would be Level 1 Grade D," she replied without further delay.
"Okey, thank you. If I have any other questions, I will ask them later. I think I will manage somehow by myself, so you can leave if you want." I said, thankful for all the help provided so far.
"Don't mess around too much. I don't want to clean up after you," Selen grumbled while leaving, somehow not breaking the deadpan expression.
Something like this hurts my pride, you know? Let's pay her back a little. I looked at her again, this time grinning.
"Of course mom~."
She said nothing and left the room.
Let's start by running. I think something more natural than a gym, like a forest or plains, would be better.
"Change into 'Forest'"
In less than a second, I found myself in the middle of a beautiful, emerald green forest full of various types of trees, all at least 20 meters tall. Moss, thick batches of grass and many multicolored flowers covered the ground.
Surprisingly, the Training Room seemed to emulate even the insects and birds, making it look alive. For a moment, I thought I was in a real forest, but the moment I turned around, I could see the entrance to the room, still in the same place as before. However, it was the only thing that remained, as all walls and ceilings disappeared.
I nodded, fully satisfied, and started my training. After running for a few hours, I changed the training room back into a gym.
Then, I started doing exercises following what I remembered about proper training, for the next few hours, until my brain could no longer focus.
Once finished, I went back to the Living Quarters, ate dinner, showered, and decided to sleep.

When I opened my eyes the next day, I saw Selen sleeping on me.
Why?! This situation is what I wanted to avoid!!!
After showering yesterday, I entered the bedroom and saw Selen sleeping there. Still annoyed by what Matrucksa made her say the previous day I decided to sleep on the couch.
I don't want to be called a lolicon again...
Alas, my efforts went to waste.
After a while, she started to stir awake. She yawned cutely, while rubbing her eyes and sat at my abdomen, then looked at me, as expressionless as always.
"Good morning Mr. lolicon," she said in a sleepy voice, causing me internal bleeding.
I took a breath to deal with the mental damage.
"First. I am not a lolicon. You are the one that has come to me. And second, I am Arthur, not Mr." I replied, putting on my best poker face.
"Nn..." she affirmed.
"Don't "Nn" me here!!" I exclaimed at the lazy response.
"Nn..." she replied.
"Ugh. Whatever. Can you at least get off me?" I asked, feeling an urge to rub the bridge of my nose.
She looked at me and then sat just beside me on the couch.
"You were a lot more talkative yesterday," I commented.
"I was forced to by The Orb," she explained.
"I see. Let's eat breakfast. Are you fine with pancakes?" I asked.
"Nn..." she nodded.
We sat down and started to eat in silence, enjoying the fluffy texture and sweetness of freshly made pancakes.
"How was it?" I asked after we both finished.
"Not bad, but you can still improve," she replied, despite her ears visibly twitching and swaying her tail.
"I think I should check what is going on outside. If I sleep too long, my 'new parents' may get worried."
I washed the dishes and directed my footsteps towards the bedroom. Then, I went to sleep with the intent of living in The Orb.
Before long, my eyes opened again, allowing me to see the child's room illuminated by the light of the day. Then, my ears heard something that made me instantly regret my decision.
"We can't... The child is still sleeping..." Ringo, my mother, said in an impassioned voice.
"He won't wake up so easily. Even if he does, he slept long enough. I can't wait any longer." Saibai, my father replied in a similarly impassioned voice.

After disappearing from the office, I appeared literally in the middle of nowhere. Despite the dark endless void around me, I was calm.
In front of me, I saw something similar to a holographic screen.

[Chose your name] was what the screen said.
Name&hellip; What was my name again? Now that I think about it, I can't remember certain aspects of my past life. It may be temporary, caused by my recent death. Better not to worry about it right now. What name would be best? It's a symbol of a fresh start, and I want it to be something cool.
After pondering for a while I have decided on Arthur. Sharing a name with a legendary king sounds awesome, and as far as I am concerned, that's a good enough reason.
"Arthur," I said and the screen vanished, but another one took its place. This one displayed a human figure, and many options allowing me to tamper with its features like gender and height.
I guess this is what I will look like. *Sigh* How the hell did my life turn into The Sims?
After approximately 6 hours of setting all details, I was finished.
Better to be handsome than ugly, and thanks to Matrucksa showing off his ability to transform, I had ample source material.
Still, recreating his features one-to-one seems to be outside my capabilities, but there is probably more to this. I can't compete with him, but becoming a model will be as easy as lying to politicians.
The human on the screen was a 190 cm tall man in his twenties with dark brown middle-length hair but on the shorter side of the spectrum, emerald green eyes, lightly tanned skin, and a lean yet muscular figure, that wouldn't hinder his movements.
After saving the changes, I pressed [Continue], but this time instead of seeing another screen my location changed again.
Everything became black for a few seconds. Then, I found myself looking at a big door.
The first thing I heard was the ringing of the doorbell and the footsteps of someone approaching to open it.
Why can't I move properly!? Why am I so small?!
As soon as I realized that, from behind the door, a man appeared. He had brown hair and thick eyebrows. His eyes were a mix of brown and gold, while his age was around 20 based on his looks.
"A child in a basket?" he said, surprise visible on his face.
No shit&hellip; And I am not a child!?! I wanted to rebuke him but what came out of my mouth was, "Guga!?"
What the actual fuck!?! Don't tell me. What was the point of setting up an adult avatar if I am starting as a child?! Ugh! as if being a teen once wasn't annoying enough.
"Hmm. I don't see anyone near, and it's already dark."(???) he stated as if wondering what to do.
Soon after, the man picked me up and brought me inside his house. Then he took me to what looked like a living room.
I will stay quiet and try to get as much information as possible.
This is better than appearing in the middle of nowhere in a world with middle age setting, but I still can't be sure how safe I am.
"Honey, I think we have an unexpected guest. Come over here for a second," he said in a troubled tone.
"What do you mean?" asked a young woman. Based on her appearance she was a little younger than the man. She had orange hair and yellow eyes. Her face showed surprise and curiosity.
So that's his wife? I don't mind calling her mommy.
"Eh? A child? Where did you find it?" she inquired, visibly confused.
"It was left in front of our doors. Since the doorbell rang I tried to look for the person that left it there, but there was no one around. It's already late, so I think we should take care of the baby for now. Tomorrow we will inform the authorities about the situation." the man suggested, sending me a helpless smile.
"Did you check if there is something in that basket?" the woman asked.
"Not yet. Give me a second. Here." he replied and took me out of the basket, shortly after handing me over to the wife.
"Oh, you were right. There is a message and... money?" he muttered in surprise.
"What does it say?" the wife inquired.
"'Please take care of my son, Arthur. I left you some money and a check.' is all it says." he answered.
"Hmm, what should we do? We already wanted a child. There can't be much difference between having one and two, right? Besides, look how cute he is!" she said and started tickling me.
S-stop it! I-I can't stop laughing. Damn, it's so humiliating!
*Giggle giggle* was what came out of me despite my true feelings.
"Yeah, and the money will be helpful as well." the man said and started laughing, prompting his wife to sigh.
*Sigh* Man always thinks only about money first." she commented.
"Hahaha. It was a joke. Tomorrow we will go and complete the formalities." he said.
